NOVEMBER 2010 What a difference a year makes…..? Change is wonderful! The new musicians I have found have taken me under their wing. Meridian Line is ‘well aged boomer-folk’ that is fun, entertaining and gets toes tapping everywhere we play. And play we have! Springboard Hoedown in Athabasca, Pinetrails Music Festival at Pigeon Lake, Second Cup at Ellerslie Crossing, Café Haven in Sherwood Park, Marybeth’s Coffeehouse in Beaumont and Mandolin Books in Edmonton. We celebrated Alberta Arts Days at Rotary Park in Stony Plain. 2011 has several fundraising events in store. Check out our web page for more details and our calendar of events. www.meridianline.ca Contacts have been made and CD # 2 is definitely in the planning stage. There will be a couple of original tunes on it, some old standards and a surprise or two. While employed fulltime it is challenging to find studio time, but soon…… I promise. Until then, keep listening. March 2010 Travel Alberta website mentions Yours Truly in an article on their website entitled "Katie's Crossing - Where Old Trains Rest". Check it out! January 2010 February 2009 Where has the time gone?
MARCH 2008 Be careful what you wish for!! Here I am in Edmonton . Following a dream. And whoever said following a dream was easy – is wrong!! It is fun; albeit challenging, and takes time!!
At the moment I'm working with some new players. Greg Martin & Mike Bombek. We've done some open mics and are putting together set lists for the upcoming summer festival schedule. I've got a note book going with some attempts at song writing – this is such an interesting learning curve!! I'm now on the executive of the Northern Bluegrass Circle Music Society. What a great place to focus on keeping a tradition alive. http://www.bluegrassnorth.com/ I'm also part of the Lynne Singers Society. A great four-part choir with a Ladies' Chorus and a Mens' Chorus. They perform community concerts all year. It is great to get back to the rigors of ensemble singing. http://lynnesingers.ca/ I'm taking great advantage of making music part of every day. Learning new stuff, practicing techniques, and fine tuning familiars – what a life. Thank You!
SEPTEMBER 2007 Cindy's Ramblings - (referring to the show featured directly below, taken from the Athabaska Advocate) WOW - I'm humbled by the support of my community!! About 150 people showed up and the room was full of love!! Andy deLorme (Old Fashioned Dance) was invtited to open for my band Stewed Roots, but he was pretty sick and had to cancel. That left the first half open to Stewed Roots. Tony Cote, Chris Pitman, Bob Gibb, & Gerry Keefe have been with me for 6 years. These guys have helped me to develop my style. With a couple glitches, the first half went pretty well. Phyllis Sinclair (Fence Posts & Stones) opened the second half. She did 4 songs including Fence Posts and the home crowd appreciated her stories and melodies. Then I took the stage with Colin Roth, the new drummer, and Tony, who's been right beside me throughout the whole process. We did 12 songs and finished to a standing ovation. I just had to step back and absorb the whole evening - right then and there. Our encore was appreciated before it got fully underway. I cannot express with the right words the feelings that were going through me that night. They are in fact, still with me. Thank you to Athabasca. What a great community!! Love always, Cindy
Heartwood fall line-up lined up Rob Swystun This year’s Heartwood Folk Club fall season will be different than in the past. The accent this year will be on groups of performers instead of individual shows, Heartwood emcee Peter Opryshko said. Another first, aside from having all group shows, will be Heartwood’s first performance to feature a local artist. Cindy Pearce will celebrate the release of her album Simply Me, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nancy Appleby Theatre as the first show in the fall season. And, in sticking with the unofficial theme for the season, she will have other people on stage with her who contributed to the album, Opryshko mentioned. Starting the season off early is another anomily, Opryshko noted. Usually, the season begins at the end of September, instead of the beginning. The decision to move it up had to do with scheduling for Pearce’s show, he said. JUNE 2007 The CD has been officially finished and will be available to buy as soon as you mail your order forms. Order page The Festival season has started. Check out the Upcoming Events page and search out Cindy's performances. MARCH 2007Officially, we are in the studio March 19 to 23, 2007. I've received The Might Squirrel's rhythm track, for one song, and it is great. Exactly the sound I was hoping for. Danny, of Homestead Recorders, has confirmed that John Taylor will play upright bass, Chad Melchert the drummer, and Gordie Matthews will be my guitar player. A good friend, Michelle Dentinger, will be providing some great background vocals on several tracks.
OCTOBER 2006 For years now, Homestead Recorders and engineer / producer Barry Allen have been recording great albums by a wide variety of Albertan musicians. Allen, who is a successful recording artist in his own right, has a reputation for coaxing the best possible performances out of the artists he works with, making him a hot commodity in Edmonton's thriving music scene. |
